Madam Jane predicts: You will still have hot & cold running water in 2028!
"What do you see in your crystal ball today?" I recently asked my clairvoyant BFF Madame Jane.
"There is a catch, however." Yeah, there always is. "You will also be
in jail." Huh? "Jailed for insurrection. Caught speaking your mind on FaceBook again.
Objecting to endless war. Demanding socialism for everyone -- not just
for the rich. Want my advice? Start looking for a good attorney."
I can see all that happening. Can't seem to keep my mouth shut. Madam Jane could be right. "You are too much of an idealist. Get over yourself."
"What else do you see?" I asked next.
"You'll be one of the lucky ones, being able to play drop-the-soap.
Everyone else out there will be envious that you gots a roof over your
head and three squares."
Hey, at least I wasn't deported! "Who says you weren't? Remember all
those off-shore prison camps that America has established in places like El
Salvador and Guantanamo? You could be in one of them." Hmmm. At least I will get to
travel?
But Madam Jane's crystal ball had clouded over again and that was that.
PS: Economist Jeffrey Sachs also has a crystal ball these days -- and it seems to be working just fine. "We are not struggling for Lebenstraum right now.
Malthus' theory was an intellectual mistake. We have plenty on this planet, enough for everybody's development. The long term is very good -- if we
don't blow ourselves up first."
America spends most of its money on things that go boom. What a waste. What a terrible waste. A waste that is
costing you and me our future. "Finland used to be the happiest country
on earth." And now? Not so much. "If the United States had any sense at
all, it would have left Finland as a neutral country" instead of wastefully arming it to the teeth.
The entire world coulda been like Finland. Happy. And we can all
still be that way. All we gotta do is trust Sachs' crystal ball, stop blowing stuff up, ditch the
military-industrial complex, grow food not bombs and start singing Kumbaya. Seriously.
What's the alternative? Extinction.
And if the American military-industrial complex can blithely murder babies in Gaza for fun and profit, what's to keep them from turning on us next? Greed never sleeps. You don't need a crystal ball to predict that.
