I'm doing the Camino de Santiago in July! Doing it my way!
This endless, heartless and bloody genocide in Gaza is really getting
me down. Every time I take a hot bath or eat tacos for dinner or even
climb into my nice comfy bed, all I can think is, "Nobody in
Gaza can even dream of having even this simple pleasure." And then I
feel all guilty and sigh.
What else can I possibly do to stop all this bloody fascistic slaughter?
What did my father do during World War II in order to stop fascists?
He went off to war! I did that too. I embedded in Iraq and Afghanistan
in 2007 so I could stop George W. Bush from being such a fascist as
well. No luck on that one. Then I went to Palestine last January to
see if I could stop Bibi the Butcher. No luck there either.
But while I was in Bethlehem, I asked a Palestinian-Christian pastor,
Munther Isaac, if he had any other ideas about how I could help stop the
Zionists' insanely fascistic tortures and murders. "What about
prayer?" I asked. "Is prayer effective? Would prayer help?" If it
did, I'd be down on my knees 24/7 -- praying the Catholic rosary,
performing Buddhist grand prostrations, speaking in Pentecostal tongues
and doing Islamic salats. The whole nine yards.
Then it hit me. I could go on the Camino de Santiago! What a perfect place to pray my freaking heart out! Do that legendary pilgrimage dating back to the ninth century in Spain
-- and petition Saint James the Great to pleeze stop this criminally
bloody "war" on the women and children of Gaza.
But of course, being the weird outlier that I am, I would do the pilgrimage differently. Instead of walking the Camino, I would fly it! Who is better acquainted with airports than me?
My own sacred Camino pilgrimage is gonna start out at the San Francisco airport. Then I'll fly to Calgary, fly over to Iceland, fly to Greenland (but not
plant the American flag!) and then fly to Copenhagen, Oslo and
Stockholm -- staying at youth hostels, living on Danish pastries and picking up grace, prayer, merit and humility all along the
way. Hopefully.
Next I will fly to Munich in order to touch base with the Nazi
fascists' very first concentration camp at Dachau -- before they moved their Holocaust operations to Gaza. Then on to
Luxembourg, Barcelona and then... Santiago de Compostela! The Camino done my way. A 21st-century pilgrimage of 15,953 miles. "Prayer means that you never give up," said Pastor Isaac. St. James would definitely understand.
"But, Jane," you might say, "Flying the Camino sounds like a whole bunch of work. 13 airports in less than three weeks? Youth hostels? Seriously?" Of course it's gonna be work. It's a freaking pilgrimage! Pilgrimages aren't supposed to be easy.
PS:
You wanna help me go on this pilgrimage? Would some of you please
sponsor me? Gots any extra airline miles I could use? All I need now
is a day-trip ticket to the Blue Lagoon in Iceland (July 1), one night in a hotel at the Munich airport (July 16), three nights at
the Hotel New Orly in Munich (July 17-20) and a plane ride home after
my jet-set Camino is over (July 27).
And since this is definitely going to be a shoe-string budget
pilgrimage (hey, Jesus was poor!) if anybody in any of the
aforementioned cities wants to stake me to a meal, I'm your person.
PPS:
For obvious reasons, I don't want to fly home through Heathrow
Airport. British MI6 types tend to arrest anti-fascist journalists in
Britain. I don't want to take that chance! Wearing a yellow
and green boiler suit with "HM PRISON" stenciled on the back is definitely
not a good look for me. Just ask Richard Medhurst, Asa Winstanley and
Julian Assange. I'd rather fly home via Dublin instead.
PPPS: I just hope that Europe can hold on and wait until I finish my Camino before it goes completely economically and morally bankrupt due to its support of Bibi the Butcher -- and also its obsession with backing Voldemort Zelensky's egotistic and disastrous insistence on Poking the Bear.
